The 2021 Atlantic hurricane season doesn’t officially get underway until June 1, but long-range forecasters have been analyzing the trends and have issued their early predictions on whether this season will be a busy one or a calm one.
Although they don’t expect this season to match the destructive hurricane season that rocked the Atlantic last year — with a record-breaking 30 named storms and 12 that made a direct hit on the United States — forecasters believe 2021 will be an active year with an above-average number of tropical storms and hurricanes. In all, they are calling for 16 to 20 named storms, including seven to 10 that will intensify into hurricanes.
